Cropping is the quickest way to improve a photo: remove distractions, straighten the frame, or fit a picture to the exact shape a website or social network expects. This cropper gives you precise control with preset ratios and keyboard shortcuts.

When to use it
Profile pictures
Make a perfect square crop centred on your face for LinkedIn, WhatsApp or a company directory.
Social media posts
Use 4:5 for Instagram portrait posts or 9:16 for stories and reels so nothing important is cut off.
Screenshots
Cut a screenshot down to the part that matters before sharing it in a chat, ticket or document.
Document photos
Trim the table or background around a photographed receipt, ID or certificate.
Which aspect ratio should I pick?
1:1 suits profile photos and square posts. 4:5 is the tallest shape Instagram shows in the feed. 16:9 fits YouTube thumbnails, presentations and most screens. 9:16 is the full screen vertical shape used by stories, reels and TikTok. 3:2 and 4:3 match most camera sensors.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping removes pixels from the edges but does not blur the rest. The remaining area keeps its original detail. If you later need a specific pixel size, resize the cropped image with the Image Resizer.
Composition tips for a better crop
Place the main subject slightly off centre, roughly a third of the way in from one side, rather than dead in the middle. For portraits, leave a little space above the head and more space in the direction the person is looking.
Check the edges before you save: a sliver of a door frame or someone’s elbow at the border is distracting. If you need several crops of the same photo, save one, press Undo to go back, and crop again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop a photo into a square?
Choose the 1:1 ratio, drag the box over the part you want and press Crop and download.
Can I undo a crop or rotation?
Yes. Use the Undo and Redo buttons or press Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y (Cmd on Mac). The editor keeps up to 50 steps.
Will my photo lose quality?
No more than any normal save. The crop is taken from the full resolution original, and you can save as PNG for a lossless result.
Can I crop on a phone?
Yes. Drag the box with your finger and pull the corner handles to resize it. Everything works with touch.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is loaded and cropped by your browser only. It never leaves your device.
How do I rotate a sideways photo?
Press Rotate left or Rotate right until it looks correct, then crop or save it as it is.
