Social Media Character Counter
Check your post against the limits of X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube and Pinterest at once.
Every platform has its own limit, and some count characters differently. Write your post once and see straight away whether it fits X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and the rest, and how much room you have left on each.

The limits we use
X: 280 for standard accounts. Threads: 500. Instagram caption: 2,200. LinkedIn post: 3,000. Facebook post: 63,206. TikTok caption: 4,000. YouTube title: 100 and description: 5,000. Pinterest description: 500.
Platforms change these limits from time to time and paid plans sometimes allow more, so check the app if a post is right at the edge.
Why X counts differently
X gives every link the same weight of 23 characters, whatever its real length, and counts most emoji and characters from scripts like Chinese and Japanese as two. Our X counter follows these rules closely, but X’s own count is final.
Writing posts that fit and perform
Write the full version first, then cut. Remove filler phrases like “I just wanted to share”, replace long words with short ones, and move links to the end. On X, every link costs 23 characters, so one link in a long post leaves 257 for your message.
Hashtags work best in moderation on most networks. Three to five relevant tags usually beat thirty generic ones, and on LinkedIn many people use only one to three. Check the hashtag count above before you post. Finally, read the post out loud once. If it sounds natural when spoken, it will usually read well in a busy feed too.
